Greece arrests eight aboard Turkish military helicopter

Meanwhile, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said Saturday 161 people were killed in the coup attempt against the government with 2 839 soldiers now detained on suspicion of involvement.

The men, who are thought to be senior ranking officers, have requested political asylum. They were arrested for illegal entry into Greece.

Mevlut Cavusoglu, the Turkish foreign minister, has demanded their return.

The Black Hawk helicopter the soldiers fled in will be returned to Turkey immediately the sources said.

According to the Guardian, the crew removed all badges and insignia from their uniforms making it impossible to know their rank.
