Powell also attacked Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, putting responsibility on her for the 2012 attack on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya.

Last month, Powell wrote that the Clinton camp largely ignored him when he advised them to knock off that line of defense.

“That’s what the 99% believe”, Powell wrote. “And I have to say, I’m increasingly concerned by how we’ve seen Donald Trump’s alarming closeness with the Kremlin become more and more clear over the course of this campaign”.

Colin Powell provided some colorful commentary on the personal life of former President Bill Clinton, according to recently leaked emails.

While it is unclear who is responsible for hacking into Powell’s emails, the website DCLeaks reportedly has ties to the Russian government.

“I will say on his email, I did receive a few of his AOL emails when I was at the State Department”, Bolton said. The Clinton campaign and its surrogates have frequently cited Powell’s use of person email in defending the Democratic nominee.

In a leaked email exchange reported by NBC, Powell voiced frustration about his name being linked to the email uproar.

An aide to Powell confirmed the hack Wednesday, telling The New York Times “they are his emails”.

To a former aide he writes: “No need to debate it with you now, but Trump is a national disgrace and an global pariah”.

When asked about the emails, Powell told BuzzFeed News “Ok”. As for him going on air to criticize him, he said he would “pick the timing”, and “To go on and call him an idiot just emboldens him”.

In the latest leak by Guccifer 2.0, a slew of emails from former Secretary of State Colin Powell have been released to the public, revealing a massive number of Powell’s private thoughts and correspondences.

Mr Powell, who has confirmed the authenticity of the emails, was sharply critical of the attempts by Mrs Clinton and her staff to draw him into the long-running controversy around her use of a private email to conduct government business when she ran the USA state department. “I told her staff three times not to try that gambit”, he wrote.

In one of the leaked emails, Powell (Republican) called Trump “a national disgrace” and an “international pariah” who allied himself with racists questioning whether President Barack Obama was born in US.

“If Donald were to somehow win”, wrote Powell in a June 23 email to Rice, “by the end of the first week in office he’d be saying ‘What the hell did I get myself into?'”

In an email from December of a year ago to CNN anchor Fareed Zakaria, Powell blasted the press for their Trump coverage: “You guys are playing his game, you are his oxygen”.
