Athens has forged closer ties with Israel in recent years, especially in the field of energy, while retaining its traditionally good relations with the Palestinians. He was in Israel last month where he met Abbas and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu.
Greece today lined with dozens of other countries that accord recognition to Palestine.

The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), an umbrella group led by Abbas’ Fatah party, also thanked the Greek parliament “for siding with peace and justice”.
