Bennett announced in May that she would not seek re-election, after four years as Green leader during which she became a well-known figurehead for the party while also receiving criticism, including for her occasionally vague interview style.

All paid up members of the party were eligible to vote in the election.
The Green Party has announced its new leaders as Caroline Lucas and Jonathan Bartley. A plan that will create jobs in every part of the country.
The pair also spoke of “taking back control” of the banking system, schools, communities and the energy system, and called for an end to the use of fossil fuels, nuclear energy and fracking.
They also pledged to take forward work on a “Basic Income” which provides everyone with a decent standard of living and helps protect against the ill effects of short term contracts, low pay and job insecurity. Imagine Britain as a world leader in renewable technology.
The pair has said they want to form a “progressive alliance” with Labour other political parties not to stand candidates against each other to stop the Conservatives being elected.
The Brighton Pavilion MP stood on a joint ticket with Jonathan Bartley, the party’s work and pensions spokesman, gaining more than 12,000 votes more than the nearest challenger.
The letter argued that such a plan was the best way to counter the iniquities of the first-past-the-post system, which allowed the current government to be voted in by 24% of the electorate.
“We are the Party of ideas and this is a big one. So we need to have a proper conversation, starting here at conference and continuing in our local parties, in our communities”.
Five other candidates failed to get more than 7% of the vote. Amelia was first elected in 2014 and at 31 is the youngest Deputy Leader of any United Kingdom political party.
