Green shuts down Blue Jays with 11 Ks in six scoreless innings
We were shut down early and after last night, maybe that is the start of something.

The Los Angeles Angels beat the Seattle Mariners 7-6, the Pittsburgh Pirates upstaged the San Francisco Giants 4-3, the Atlanta Braves fell 4-2 to the Minnesota Twins, the New York Mets posted a 7-5 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Cincinnati Reds saw off the Miami Marlins 6-3, while the Washington Nationals were beaten 6-2 by the Colorado Rockies.
2016 has been a tale of two seasons for New York Yankees rookie pitcher Chad Green.
Rays 8, Padres 2 • Drew Smyly allowed just a solo homer over seven innings, Logan Forsythe and Kevin Kiermaier each homered and Tampa Bay won at home.
You can’t blame them if they’re as shellshocked as the Stadium crowd of 41,874 was Tuesday night.
Rodriguez spokesman Ron Berkowitz said in a statement Monday: “I want to put all this talk to rest about Alex playing for any team this season”.
However, his New York Mets tasted defeat in the end, going down 10-6 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. It’s safe to say he had plenty left in the tank before the Yankees had to pull him following the delay that lasted a little over 40 minutes.
Once the rain cleared, everything changed. He became the first Yankees player with an extra-base hit and RBI in his first three career games since the RBI became an official stat in 1920, ESPN Stats & Info said.
This was Green’s best start of the year, but it was reminiscent of his strong start in San Diego before the All-Star break.
Righthander Anthony Swarzak, who replaced Pineda on the mound to start the inning, imploded to allow the Jays back into the contest, with a little help from third baseman Chase Headley. Struggling against weak lineups like the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets, Green’s most recent task was to go toe-to-toe with the hard-hitting offense of the Toronto Blue Jays. Aaron Judge made a leaping attempt to grab the ball that just cleared the wall, but his jump was Tu-Lo. It continued with Adam Warren in the eighth.
The Jays would strike again in the eighth, but not before some wonderful relief work by Scott Feldman who tossed 57 pitches and struck out five batters including the last four he faced. New York LF Brett Gardner (sore right ankle) missed his fourth straight game but could start Wednesday depending on how he feels in pregame baseball activities. Before the rain delay, the Yankees owned a 6 – 0 lead.
But what’s most important is that the Yankees have yet another youngster that they can rely on for positive contributions.
On five days rest, he allowed three runs and four hits in seven innings during an 8-4 win at NY on May 25 and on May 30, he allowed three hits in eight scoreless innings during a 4-2 home victory. This combined with an RBI ground out later in the frame extended his league leading RBI total to 100 on the season.
All the Yankee runs against Estrada came in three different innings after two were out with no runners on base. It was the first time both starting catchers had multiple home runs in an American League game since at least 1913, the Yankees said.
Josh Donaldson, owner of the fifth-best wOBA this season (.405), did not look the part on Monday, striking out twice against against Green with a groundout.
And when he was traded by the Blue Jays to Seattle after the 2014 season, there were not too many tears shed. I think Estrada pitched well, just a couple pitches that were left up.It was big night for numerous guys.Martin had a big game a year ago here against these guys.
The Blue Jays improved to 9-6 this month despite having scored three runs or fewer in eight of those games.
J.A. Happ is getting close to becoming the second.
Jays of the Day: Russell Martin (.342) with two big home runs, Edwin Encarnacion (.305) with the game tying blast, Troy Tulowitzki (.157) with four hits on the night including the team’s first home run, and I’m also giving one to Mother Nature for that rain delay that knocked Michael Pineda out of the game.

Jays Suckage: Marco Estrada (-.233) for obvious reasons, and Michael Saunders (-.111) who didn’t reach base in his four highest leverage at bats.
