“No state has been hurt more by Barack Obama’s agenda over the past seven-and-a-half years than Wyoming”, said Cheney.
Liz Cheney, a daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, handily won Wyoming’s Republican primary for an open house seat Tuesday night, getting 40 percent of the vote in a crowded field of nine candidates.
Ryan Greene has won the Democratic nomination for Wyoming’s U.S. House seat and will face Republican Liz Cheney in the general election.
Cheney left Virginia in 2012, where she was living and working as a Fox News commentator, to run for Senate in Wyoming.
Cheney was strongly criticized for moving to Wyoming shortly before launching the bid, and challenging a largely popular Republican.
Cheney has remained mum about whether she’ll join the Freedom Caucus if she’s elected to Congress.
“Wyoming deserves a Congressman who will unequivocally stand up for property rights, a Congressman who lives in Wyoming and will defend the property rights of Wyoming”, said Paul on his Facebook page. Mike Enzi, the state’s senior Republican. She quickly dropped out of the race.
In that primary and this one, much of the criticism from her opponents focused on the fact that Cheney had not lived in Wyoming since she was a child.
Gilbert said he voted instead for Darin Smith, an attorney and Christian Broadcasting Network executive from Cheyenne.
The younger Cheney adheres to the ideological line of her father, who was President George W. Bush’s right-hand man and considered by many to have been the real power within that administration, as well as the driving force behind decisions such as going to war with Iraq and using torture in the interrogations of suspected terrorists.
“Virginian Liz Cheney can’t have it both ways!”
Cheney celebrated the victory by posting a picture of her hugging her father to Twitter.
