Greg Schiano denies having knowledge of Jerry Sandusky abuse

In a statement, Schiano said he “never saw any abuse, nor had reason to suspect any abuse” during his time at Penn State.

Testimony made public Tuesday suggested some Penn State coaches were aware of Sandusky’s abuse decades ago. Paterno said he relayed the information to his bosses.

Each time new evidence or allegations appear in the Sandusky case, Penn State and Paterno’s defenders have had the same response.

Dottie Sandusky, wife of the retired defensive coordinator found guilty of 45 counts of child sex crimes in 2012, maintained her stalwart support of her husband.

The insurance company claims Penn State violated contract terms by not reporting earlier alleged incidents of sexual abuse by Sandusky, including incidents that reportedly occurred in the 1970s and 1980s.

“Any discussion of the documents released today should begin with the recognition that innocent children were hurt, and they and their families remain in the prayers of the Tarman family, which has deep roots in State College and central Pennsylvania”, said attorney Laurel Brandstetter.

To this point, McQueary himself was the only former Penn State assistant to have testified to knowledge of Sandusky’s abuse.

The Paterno family lawyer issued a statement denying the accusations saying “they defy all logic”. Others deny the allegations.

Bradley, according to McQueary, did not seem surprised and said he had heard of some things involving Sandusky with young boys in the shower.

McQueary said Bradley told him he’d been approached by someone in the ’80s who saw Sandusky “doing something to a boy”. Among those are current coaches Tom Bradley of UCLA and Greg Schiano of Ohio State.

McQueary asserted in the court record that when he told Bradley about what he had seen in the shower, Bradley did not act surprised. “And that’s it. That’s all he ever told me”. Bradley worked at his alma mater from 1979-2011 while Schiano and McQueary were Nittany Lions assistants from 1990-95 and 2004-11, respectively.

In Sandusky’s trial, pivotal testimony came from McQueary, a former Penn State graduate assistant. Once a steadying presence for a program rocked by the unthinkable, Bradley has now become yet another Penn State employee with documented knowledge of Sandusky’s actions well before his eventual arrest. Another man says in 1987 an assistant football coach witnessed Sandusky fondling him and then walked out of the room.

John Doe 75 said Sarra may have said something like, “Oh, sorry”, and immediately walked out.

That other assistant coach was identified later in the testimony as Greg Schiano.

“Speculation also serves to drive a wedge within the Penn State community”.

While the statue is far from a central issue – Penn State paid out $93 million to more than 30 Sandusky accusers since 2013 – statues are powerful symbols, meant to last, so let’s not disregard the issue. The questions of who knew what and when have continued to turn up disappointing results at Penn State, and this latest set of documents only makes matters worse for all involved.
