Greg Schiano denies seeing sexual abuse at Penn State
A judge disclosed the existence of the 1976 allegation two months ago, along with claims Penn State coaches witnessed inappropriate contact between Sandusky and children in the 1980s, but the newly unsealed documents provided greater detail. In ignoring the complaints, Doe 150 testified, Paterno said that he had a football season to worry about.

Philadelphia Daily News columnist John Smallwood says the evidence in the documents released Tuesday “is all ‘he said versus he said.'” However, in his view, “there is no logical reason for Mike McQueary to have lied in his deposition”, while “Paterno, Bradley Schiano and anyone else who are alleged to have previous knowledge have every reason to deny”.
On Nov. 9, 2011 – the day Paterno announced he would retire at the end of the 2011 season, but was instead fired that same night – Schiano was quoted by the Asbury Park Press and other media outlets in response to whether he had any inkling that something inappropriate was going on with Sandusky during his time at Penn State.
When Bradley took the interim head coach position at Penn State in 2011 after the Paterno’s firing, he denied any knowledge of Sandusky’s sexual abuse. Sandusky was convicted in 2012 of assaulting 10 boys over a 15-year period and was sentenced to at least 30 years in prison.
“The overwhelming evidence confirms that Joe Paterno never engaged in a cover up of Jerry Sandusky’s crimes”.
Bradley’s representative Brett Senior issued a statement Tuesday afternoon.
Bradley said that other assistant was Schiano, according to McQueary. In his 2012 court testimony, Victim 4 said he thought Bradley was “suspicious” of the encounter, and that Bradley had remained in the shower until both Sandusky and the victim left. While individuals hold different opinions, and may draw different inferences from the testimony about former Penn State employees, speculation by Penn State is not useful. He claimed Bradley told him he had heard of previous previous incidents including one allegedly witnessed by Schiano.
A man identified as John Doe 75 detailed an alleged 1992 incident.
The deposition also revealed, through the prosecution’s questioning, that former Penn State assistant Fran Ganter testified that Bradley had verbally complained about Sandusky being permitted at Penn State’s facilities.
Penn State President Eric Barron issued a statement on Penn State’s website Tuesday addressing the documents. Assistant coach Joe Sarra walked into the room and saw them, Doe 75 testified.

The cache of court documents related to the Penn State abuse scandal that were unsealed today came from the university’s legal dispute with its insurance company, PMA, which argued that it was not responsible for covering the university’s payments to Jerry Sandusky’s victims, in part because Penn State officials knowingly kept the abuse secret. He testified that he observed Sandusky molesting a young boy in the Penn State football showers in 2001. Schiano is now co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State. They went on to assert that the university’s $93 million settlement occurred “without [the university] fully assessing the underlying facts”.
