Greinke dominates, hits go-ahead HR as Dodgers beat Reds 2-1

Mat Latos took the mound for the third time as a member of the Dodgers in search of his first win in blue. Los Angeles holds a 2 1/2-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the National League West and has the fourth-best record in the NL behind three teams from the Central Division. “I was getting a bunch of ground balls and was pitching like I have been”.

All three runs in the game were scored in the fifth inning as Cincinnati got to Greinke thanks to a defensive mishap by right fielder Yasiel Puig.

The Dodgers’ offense went up against Reds starter Keyvius Sampson, making his third career start.

The Dodgers are coming into this game after allowing two walks during their last outing. The left-hander struck out three and walked three in his home debut since being acquired from Atlanta. But from that point, he kind of recovered. “I thought he was extremely composed”. That’s what he’s been doing for us.

He didn’t make the catch, but he did receive a nice ovation from the Dodger Stadium crowd.

Hamilton’s sixth homer of the season was a 437-foot blast to right-center field in the second inning for a 2-1 lead. Rookies have started 16 straight games since July 28, the longest such streak since the first year of the rookie designation in 1958. “It just wasn’t his night”. Chavez at home this season is 4-5 with a 2.92 ERA at home, compared to 2-7 with a 4.73 ERA on the road, but his peripherals are fairly similar, giving him a 3.59 FIP and 3.75 xFIP in Oakland compared to a 3.54 FIP and 3.87 xFIP everywhere else.

With temperatures soaring in the 90s and the ball carrying, the Los Angeles Dodgers performed a solid rendition of home run derby.

Justin Turner, who came in during a double switch, started the bottom of the inning with a single and then a missed double play ball kept him on the base paths with one out.

Shaw had a two-run and solo shot, and Castillo’s was a two-run homer in Boston’s highest run total of the season. “It was about everyone hitting and everyone contributing”. During that stretch, Hernandez is batting. It was Puig’s 10th home run this season.

“Who cares?” he said about the opponent. “I don’t like it (being classified as a utility player)”. Now I’m a firm believer that it was mental. “I got to worry about what I got here”. “It’s why I am here”.

Now with the division lead at 4.5 games for the New York Mets, they have been keeping their foot on the gas as they are 8-2 in their last 10 games showing no sign of slowing down either.

John Lamb (0-1) gave up those four consecutive two-out hits, including the 1-0 fastball to Gonzalez. Joc Pederson added an RBI groundout, and even Anderson chipped in with two effective sacrifice bunts.

The Reds brought the winning run to the plate in the eighth after a two-out walk by Joey Votto, but Mattingly brought in his closer, Kenley Jansen, who struck out Todd Frazier to end the inning. The three homers Holmberg gave up came during a span of nine batters.
