Greitens and Koster to vie for Missouri’s governorship

Eric Greitens already has a resume that’s remarkable: Navy SEAL officer, Rhodes scholar, White House fellow, boxer and martial arts expert, humanitarian to homeless children and war refugees, best-selling author and founder of a nonprofit that helps that military veterans find jobs.

The most closely watched primary is a competitive four-way race between candidates vying to become the Republican nominee for governor.

He will face Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster in November.

During his acceptance speech Tuesday evening, rival Koster – who has been running as a “conservative Democrat” – offered some pointed jabs for Greitens for his “disturbing political campaign” season that promoted “candidates shooting machine guns and doing sit-ups for the cameras”, according to The Associated Press.

Blunt easily won Tuesday’s Republican primary in his bid for a second term in the Senate, and Kander won handily in the Democratic primary.

He prevailed with about 35 percent of the vote over businessman John Brunner, longtime Lt. Gov.

In a March 2015 interview, Greitens told The Forward that he is “proud to be Jewish”, and that he saw his entry into politics as an extension of the Jewish mandate of tikkun olam.

Not since 1992 has Missouri had such a hotly contested Republican governor’s primary involving so many candidates.

Voters are weighing a desire for an outside voice versus political experience as they cast ballots in Missouri’s highly competitive Republican governor’s primary.

Greiten’s isn’t shy about who he is: The mantra “conservative outsider” is emblazoned across his campaign homepage.

Between collusion with super PACs, accepting the single largest dark money donation in Missouri history, and his refusing to answer tough questions from media and constituents, Greitens has shown his true colors. They also sharply criticized the way Nixon responded to protests at the University of Missouri in Columbia previous year over racial concerns and to riots following the 2014 fatal police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson.
