It’s Primary Day in Missouri, and voters are deciding who will represent their political party in the general election in November.

Republican Mike Parson led the GOP lieutenant governor’s race with 1,688 votes, well ahead of the Democrat victor, Russ Carnahan, who tallied 529.

During his acceptance speech Tuesday evening, rival Koster – who has been running as a “conservative Democrat” – offered some pointed jabs for Greitens for his “disturbing political campaign” season that promoted “candidates shooting machine guns and doing sit-ups for the cameras”, according to The Associated Press.

The Republican Governor’s Association wasted no time in launching its first negative ad of the fall campaign against Democrat Chris Koster.

As self-described conservative outsider making his political debut, Greitens won a four-way primary.

Greitens isn’t a single issue candidate by any means, though.

After his military career, he founded The Mission Continues, a nonprofit that connects veterans with volunteer work to ease their transition back home.

For Greitens though, it might have been his series of freakish, gun-heavy political ads before the polls opened Tuesday. Greitens developed a nationwide network of donors for the organization, some of whom have helped finance his gubernatorial campaign. Goguen has denied the abuse allegations, which were cited in the attack ad. Kinder came in third with just over 20 percent of the vote.

Libertarians have also chosen Cisse Spragins to represent them. His death led to at least temporary calls to tone down negative campaigning.
