Greta Van Susteren leaves Fox News over ‘financial disagreement’
Effective immediately, host Greta Van Susteren is leaving her position as a host of the Fox News Channel’s “On the Record” news commentary program. Van Susteren, meanwhile, took to Facebook to explain that she took advantage of that much-discussed clause in her contract allowing her to leave now owing to Roger Ailes’ exit as Fox News chief.

Political commentator Brit Hume will take over Van Susteren’s 7 p.m. hour starting Tuesday. Fox News media correspondent Howard Kurtz reported that after Ailes resigned amid sexual harassment allegations, Van Susteren attempted to renegotiate her contract.
Van Susteren was not quoted in that statement. “We sincerely regret and apologize for the fact that Gretchen was not treated with the respect and dignity that she and all of our colleagues deserve”. Carlson claimed that Roger Ailes sexually harassed her during his time as chairman of the network.
A source close to the situation suggested it was a financial disagreement which led to the anchor’s departure.
She added that she hoped “to continue my career in broadcasting”.
Greta Van Susteren, anchor of Fox News’ On the Record since 2002, abruptly left the cable news channel Tuesday.
Van Susteren posted a message addressing her sudden exit on her Facebook page.

Van Susteren rose to prominence as a criminal defense attorney and civil trial lawyer who parlayed appearances as a legal analyst on CNN during the infamous trial of former football player and actor O.J. Simpson into a hosting stint. She states that no other copies exist for many of these photos, and that even if Fox is legally permitted to keep them, there is a principle of “fundamental decency” that demands they be returned.
