We’ll have to wait until the series returns later this month to find out exactly what Alex is talking about, but it certainly sounds like he’s somewhere other than Grey Sloan Memorial. Even after Sara Ramirez, who plays orthopedic surgeon Callie Torres exited the show last season after 10 years of being a series regular, Rhimes does not want to lock the door. Season 13 is expected to pick up immediately after the events of the Season 12 finale that saw April and Jackson welcoming a baby and Maggie confessing to Meredith her interest in the new doctor Nathan, who was hooking up with Meredith.

She revealed that she started filming “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13 last week and teased her new story line with the hashtag “drama and thrills”.
As part of Callie’s endeavor to move on, she will be moving to NY.
Arizona (played by Jessica Capshaw) didn’t get her fairy tale ending with Callie, and now that her ex has jumped ship for NY, it is the ideal time for a new love interest to appear on the scene.
“You don’t want to just stick two people together”, said Rhimes.
“There is going to be a lot of checking in with the original cast; we love them so much and there has been such a renaissance with the show that it’s nice to focus on the core pieces that have been there since the very beginning”.
“In our world, Callie still exists”, she says and teases what could possibly be a chance for a guest appearance of Ramirez visiting from NY.
Rhimes says it will be an “organic” kind of love and not a whirlwind one so that poses another question.
Victoria took to Twitter to post a shot of a script for episode 4 of season 13 this week, and eagle eyes fans pointed out that there was more than meets in the eye in the snap.
“We’re playing that Arizona gets to go visit her daughter and her daughter gets to come see her”, the showrunner explained. “In our world, Callie still exists”, Rhimes revealed.

We’ll see how this new person fits into the doctor’s life after Season 13 premieres on September 22 on ABC.
