But even Mer’s straightforward answer wasn’t enough to convince Merlex shippers that there’s nothing going on between these long-time friends. A patient from Meredith’s very first surgery as an Intern is readmitted to Grey Sloan Memorial with a new aneurysm, and Amelia takes her case. “Do you love Alex?” he questioned after hearing her rants about her friends. “I was like, ‘Oh yeah, let’s go”. This was a narrative that was somewhat-easy to guess, but at the same time, we appreciate that it is not something more complicated than this. So of course she immediately connects with Alex. She was in charge of a situation where you need to literally relinquish control to other more adept people and it all really worked seamlessly. Alex (Justin Chambers) then shared that he and Jo (Camilla Luddington) used to have that kind of intimacy all the time. Even if Meredith does have feelings for Alex, he is completely head-over-heels for the girl he proposed to in the Season 12 winter finale. “I hope we get to keep going to down that path”, she added. “They won’t go away”, she said. But Meredith doesn’t know. And Meredith might have gone through a lot in her years, but she definitely has family.
