A BODY found on the banks of the Pimpama River has been identified as a missing 12-year-old girl from Marsden. Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson said at a press conference in the afternoon that the dark-haired girl, aged between 12 and 18, had died around a week back, ABC reports.

Police want to speak to anyone who was near the bridge over Pimpama River on Kerkin Road North within the past week.

A major incident room has been established at the Logan Police Complex where homicide detectives will investigate Tiahleigh’s death.

“Even if they saw nothing, that’s really important to us”.

Kerkin Road North in Pimpama was expected to remain closed on Saturday as police scour the area, now declared a crime scene.

“We do believe it is a very popular place for fishing and swimming, and people go kayaking in that area”.
