The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the teen as Naim Ahmad Yousif Safi from the town of al-Ubediya, just east of Bethlehem.
After the terror attack, the Border Police reported that riots erupted in the area, and that officers repelled the Palestinians using crowd dispersal means.
According to Palestinian Health Ministry figures, 174 Palestinians have been killed since October 1 of a year ago, mostly after alleged attacks on Israelis or during the violent dispersal of protests.
The force returned fire at two suspects armed with guns and knives, neutralizing the threat and killing both of them.
No Israeli officers were wounded.
Also on Sunday, a young Palestinian woman tried to stab an Israeli policeman but was shot in the attempt in the flashpoint West Bank city of Hebron, Israeli police said. Security forces shot her, wounding her critically.
In the first incident, the military said two Palestinians were throwing rocks at passing vehicles near the West Bank city of Jenin. One officer opened fire and killed him. Most were accused of carrying out attacks but others died during clashes and demonstrations.
Numerous assailants have been teenagers who appear to have acted on their own. At least 162 Palestinians, the majority of whom Israel says were attackers, have been killed by Israeli fire.
Israel has blamed the violence on inflammatory rhetoric by radical Muslim leaders who “brainwash” youths and “glorify martyrdom”.
Questions have been raised over whether Israeli forces have used excessive force in certain cases, allegations they firmly reject.
The latest incident, which followed bloodshed earlier Sunday in Jenin and southeast of Jerusalem, came as US Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power visited Israel and the Palestinian territories for talks with leaders from both sides aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Global efforts at halting the attacks have been largely unsuccessful.
