Micah Xavier Johnson has been identified by multiple media outlets as one of the alleged snipers in Dallas who killed five police officers and wounded seven more. Two civilians were also wounded.
Brown said his department continues to investigate other possible attackers, even though the suspect told police that he carried out the shooting alone, and that he was not affiliated with any group.
Hundreds of people gathered in Union Square Park in Manhattan and took to the streets to protest the recent police-related shootings of two black men.
The Los Angeles Times and CBS News, citing anonymous law enforcement officials, reported that Johnson, a 25-year-old resident of the Dallas area, was the suspect killed by police using a “bomb robot” following a standoff in a parking garage. “He expressed anger for Black Lives Matter”, Dallas Police Chief David Brown told reporters at a news conference just before 9 a.m. EDT.
“I am saddened, frustrated and angered aby the senseless targeted attack on law enforcement that occurred in Dallas last night”, Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher said in a statement.
The coordinated shooting targeting police officers is the deadliest attack on law enforcement since September 11, 2001, when 72 officers were killed. Dallas officers are hurting. He says the snipers shot from “elevated positions” during a protest over two recent fatal police shootings. Twelve officers and two bystanders were shot by at least two snipers in what President Barack Obama called a “vicious, calculated and despicable attack”.
Peaceful demonstrators were sent running for their lives after marching in response to videos released this week that showed Alton Sterling shot by police in Louisiana and Philando Castile killed by a cop during a traffic stop Minnesota.
Witness Cortney Washington and an unnamed woman tell NBC 5 what they saw after Dallas police officers were shot after a rally in Downtown Dallas Thursday night. I also indicated the degree to which we need to be supportive of those officers who do their job each and every day, protecting us and protecting our communities.
“We don’t feel much support most days”.
“Our hearts are broken”, DART spokesperson Morgan Lyons said. She threw herself over her four sons, ages 12 to 17, when the shooting began.

The post goes on to say: “We encourage a peaceful dialogue to address the concerns across our nation right now”. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a directive to the Texas Department of Public Safety director, offering “whatever assistance the City of Dallas needs at this time”.
