Clark said Jenkins’ relatives were devastated by her death, and he assured them authorities would do everything in their power to find those responsible.
Police say Jenkins was beaten shortly after getting out of the auto by five or six unidentified men.
“During that assault one of the males pulled out a gun and while the victim was on the ground, shot the victim twice”, said Homicide Unit James Clark.
It was unclear last night what prompted the shooting.
“We don’t know if it’s potentially a hate crime, or a robbery – we really don’t know”, Clark said.
Jenkins was a 22-year old Philadelphia native, who attended West Philadelphia High School and Temple University, according to Philadelphia Gay News.
Their rowhouse in South Philly was a hive of activity last night, a sharp contrast to the other residences on the tidy block, a stone’s throw from Interstate 76.
“She was known to the LGBTQ community as a transgender individual”, the spokeswoman said.
Late in July, The Advocate reported that at the least 19 trans ladies had been killed in 2015. He was dating one of her roommates. The motive was said to be an argument.
In an infamous case that has not been solved, Nizah Morris, a transgender entertainer, was found suffering from severe head trauma after police gave her a “courtesy ride” on December. 22, 2002. She was pronounced dead at approximately 2:53 a.m. today at Einstein Medical Center.
Morris died on Christmas Eve.
“This is evidence that more advocacy is needed”. It’s too early in the investigation to tell.
