Group speaks out against gun violence
Just a week after marching in the president’s 2013 inaugural parade, 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed on the South Side of Chicago.

Gun violence personally impacted the residents of Roselle Park previous year when a nine-hour standoff between the Roselle Park Police Department and a resident who barricaded himself in his house ended with the man taking his life with a gun.
“I never dreamed something my friends and I came up with would inspire and empower so many people all over the country to get involved in ending gun violence”, said Nza-Ari Khepra, founder of Project Orange Tree and co-creator of Wear Orange.
Also, buildings across the nation will turn orange today including the Empire State Building, the City Center Fountain in Carmel and the IPL Building on Monument Circle.
Hamilton said he had heard of the Wear Orange campaign and their “common sense message against gun violence” before, so he said he was happy to meet with a group of young mothers who lead the local effort against gun violence.
Gun owners in Arkansas think that’s good for the community to be aware of this day, but also said this day is not only about the violence that is brought on by guns.
“33,000 people die every year to gun violence and that includes suicides, homicides and accidents”. A group of high schoolers asked their classmates to wear the color in her honor.
Wednesday marked the second annual day dedicated to remembering the people killed by gun violence across the country.
So often when the topic of gun violence comes up, Hughes said, so does the topic of despair. “The other thing that we are focused on is gun safety, so, simple education on how to keep their kids safe when guns are in the home”.

The resolution urges citizens and community leaders to concentrate heightened attention on gun violence during June, when gun violence typically spikes at the start of the summer months, and to work together to make our communities safer from this violence. That’s why you are encouraged to wear orange Thursday, a color that organizers say represents the value of human life, and shows support for gun safety. 85 percent of them are because of gun violence.
