Groups seeking comprehensive USA review of pipelines
“We believe that pipelines are unnecessary and reviews them together with existing infrastructure, it will determine that there is now enough capacity in our pipelines that are already in place to carry the gas the Marcellus region through Virginia and North Carolina”.

The Sierra Club, Appalachian Mountain Advocates and local activists said the region is amid an unprecedented era of proposed pipeline construction, requiring a single review called a programmatic environmental impact statement. The $3 billion, 300-mile pipeline would run from West Virginia to Southside Virginia. Many industry officials see the seven or more pipeline projects as a way to re-inflate the price of natural gas produced in the region, which has dropped as a result of over-production nationally.
The Mountain Valley Pipeline is a joint venture between EQT Midstream Partners and affiliates of NextEra Energy Inc.
In a story October 23 about the filing with federal regulators of the proposed Mountain Valley Pipeline with federal regulators, The Associated Press reported erroneously the cost of the project.
Those projects, along with the Appalachian Connector, which has not been submitted to the commission for review yet, would all run east out of West Virginia through U.S. Forest Service land. They have not progressed as far as the other proposed pipelines and have not filed with FERC. A drilling technique called hydraulic fracturing has made accessible vast, deep deposits of natural gas embedded in shale in the Marcellus and Utica deposits. Energy companies have said the pipelines would deliver energy that is cheap, abundant and cleaner than coal. It also cited changes in the route to avoid environmentally sensitive or scenic areas, such as a crossing along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

During the teleconference, 21st District Senator John Edwards said the potential danger for something to go wrong with a pipeline was high. But companies planning to build the pipelines say there are good reasons to consider them one at a time.
