Guangzhou Evergrande smash transfer record for Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez
Guangzhou Evergrande have signed striker Jackson Martinez from Atletico Madrid for a bumper transfer fee of 42 million euros ($46 million), the south China club confirmed on Wednesday.

Chelsea midfielder Ramires joined Jiangsu Suning last week for 25 million euros in the previous record-breaking deal.
In China, Guangzhou Evergrande have announced the signing of Jackson Martinez.
China’s transfer window remains open until February 26, which could mean more deals are expected to come for big-spending Chinese clubs.
But 29-year-old will be hoping for a fresh start in Asia after signing for the Chinese giants on a reported four-year deal.
If Sydney’s Group H opponents already looked intimidating with the likes of Brazilian internationals Paulinho and Ricardo Goulart in their starting line-up, they’ve entered a level of their own with Martinez spear-heading their attack.
Jackson Martinez shone for Porto but had less of an impact for Atletico Madrid.
He scored only two goals in 15 appearances at the Spanish club.
In all, Super League teams spent 108 million euros ($118 million) on players and coaches in the 2014-2015 transfer market, according to statistics from by Germany’s Transfer Market, placing the league second behind the English Premier League.
The report also mentioned that Martinez did not attend practice sessions on Monday due to “personal reasons with permission of the club”, while the Colombian international’s agent Jorge Mendes negotiated deal with the Chinese club that day.

The club claimed they adopted a “superstars + wizards” policy while recruiting foreign players.
