The men have been cleared for transfer by USA government departments and agencies. The organization notes that this is the largest transfer of detainees since President Obama took office.

The Obama administration on Monday transferred 15 detainees from the USA military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to the United Arab Emirates, the largest release under the current president, according to media reports and a human-rights organization.

U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) released an unclassified report on Wednesday summarizing the terrorist activities and affiliations of the 107 Guantanamo Bay detainees who were detained there as of November 25, 2015. “Once again, hardened terrorists are being released to foreign countries where they will be a threat”. Both bills include cumbersome overseas transfer restrictions that make it more hard, but not impossible, for the administration to transfer detainees. The administration released a blueprint for doing so in February and said at the time that of the 91 detainees still being held, 35 were eligible for release.

Ayotte has introduced legislation that would permanently ban the closure of Guantanamo and prohibit the transfer of detainees to the United States. “We can only win the fight against terrorism and religious extremism if we adhere to our American values”.

“In the president’s rush to fulfill his misguided campaign promise to close Guantanamo Bay, he is endangering American lives by releasing this prisoners back to foreign countries”, Jenkins said.
