Guardians of the Galaxy Director on Whether Thanos Will Return for Sequel

In fact, it doesn’t sound like it will build to Avengers: Infinity War at all!

Gunn goes further, saying that while an Infinity Stone was the central point of the first Guardians of the Galaxy, it – and the other five – will not have a role to play in the upcoming sequel. Apparently, fans thought wrong.

There have been rumors over the past months about Thanos’ return to the sequel, and though the director already said earlier that the character won’t appear, some fans insisted that it was just a cover up to keep the plot under wraps. “No. As I’ve said before, Thanos isn’t in this movie”, Gunn re-itterated. I think he’s gonna have a little bit to do and say when it comes to certain wars and infinity. With that in mind, it would make sense if the sequel will contain the last remaining stone that Thanos will use against the Avengers in the MCU phase 3 conclusion, “Avengers: Infinity War part 1 & 2”. Is that a spoiler?

I was kind of hoping before that Thanos and the stones will somehow be included in the film. Often times the canvas chairs that actors, directors, producers and some of the crew sit in while on set merely have temporary or working production logos or titles.

With the script finished, it’s only natural for “Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2” to start shooting.

As for the secrets, aside from the on-scene images, James Gunn has also been teasing a post-credit scene, as is the tradition of Marvel movies. Its been mentioned before that the line-up will expand in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and now its confirmed at least one new member will be added to the 2017 blockbuster.
