Guardiola confident over new Aguero contract

Pep Guardiola reacted angrily to suggestions Manchester City could win four trophies in his first season in charge of the Premier League side.

Bournemouth are next in the firing line, although at least they will not have to face suspended City forward Sergio Aguero, who has scored nine goals in five games this season.

His dramatic late goal against QPR in 2012 secured the first of two Premier League titles City have won since his arrival and he bagged his second hat-trick of the current season during Wednesday’s 4-0 Champions League win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Despite the impressive start though, Guardiola played down expectations, stating that there are still aspects he would like to see improved.

Speaking ahead of their EFL Cup tie with Swansea City on Wednesday, he said: “What the f***!”

As quoted by The Guardian, he replied when asked about Aguero’s contract situation; “I think he’s going to extend the contract but it’s not official. I don’t know if it’s going to be this year, but we will try”.

“There is no doubt about that”. We’ll see today, we’ll talk to the doctors.

“We will see tomorrow”.

“But we’ve been working and improving in the last three years”.

Despite City’s 100 per cent start, Aguero knows that it will be a hard task to win the Champions League in Guardiola’s first season.

“The trainers, when we win, after one hour, maybe three or four – we are so, so happy but then after we start to worry about the next one”.

Vincent Kompany is still not match fit.

“I was always confident I would be back”, said Gundogan, 25, who arrived in English football from Borussia Dortmund with a serious knee problem after his transfer for £20 million ($27 million, 23 million euros).

“We try to do absolutely everything to take care of our players in terms of training and the way they eat, their food, their rest – without good vitamins, good food, good drink and good rest you can not compete every few days over 11 months”.

“(On Silva) I think tomorrow, he will not be available.

“He’s close, but not yet”, Guardiola said.

“The impact that the new manager has had early on is the biggest compliment I can give him, he’s stamped his authority on the team”.

He continued: “All we can do is work a lot”.

Either way, Guardiola says he will be delighted if and when Aguero’s new contract is announced.
