Guardiola is leaving Bayern

Bild suggested Guardiola was alive to the danger of out-staying his welcome if he remained at Bayern.

Germany’s Kicker magazine stated on Thursday that former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti had told friends in Italy that he was “90 per cent” certain to take over in Munich from next season, and Guardiola was asked for his thoughts on the Italian on Friday.

“It is not planned to push back that date”, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said last month, according to The Guardian.

Manager Louis van Gaal is coming under increased pressure for the poor brand of football being played at Old Trafford, and with the exit from the Champions League and results starting to go wrong, his long-term future at United appears to be under scrutiny. The coaches come in and at some point they leave. It came as no surprise that Pep Guardiola jumped on the opportunity when he had the chance to sign up for Bayern Munich.

Guardiola, 44, is halfway through the final year of his contract and says he will announce his decision to renew or go before December 25.

Naturally, despite just reporting those simple facts the logical endpoint for this morning’s news was that Carlo Ancelotti was crowned the new coach of Bayern Munich by so many transfer rumor outlets bereft of any actual reports stating as much.

On Monday and Tuesday, numerous tabloids reported that Manchester City was ready to outspend the Red Devils in order to acquire the services of Guardiola.

The Bayern captain, Philipp Lahm, spoke on behalf of the squad wwhen he said the players would like Guardiola to stay.

Given the richness of player contracts in the Premier League, quite a few Bayern players are likely to examine options in England first. “We have always said there will be a decision in 2015”.

Mainz, seventh in the league, are unbeaten in their last six consecutive league games (three wins, three draws) and have also not tasted defeat in their last four away fixtures.

Guardiola, who succeeded Jupp Heynckes in 2013 after Bayern’s victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final, has yet to win Europe’s premier club competition with his current club.
