Guardiola shows respect for Mourinho at start of City reign

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that the club’s owner has not made demands over winning the Premier League and Champions League during his time with the club.

The former Barcelona manager addressed a host of issues, including his rivalry with Jose Mourinho, the fitness of Vincent Kompany and the future of Yaya Toure.

And Guardiola, a victor of 22 trophies including two Champions League, feels that the Portuguese has already galvanised him towards glory.

As a player the all-conquering boss won six league titles, two Copa de Rey’s, the European Cup, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and much more.

PEP GUARDIOLA HAS already passed his first Premier League assimilation test with flying colours.

‘I think Jose said it pretty well.

“Against Sunderland, against the Big Sam in the first one, I am sure it will be completely different”.

“Competing against managers like that take you to the next level, they push you to achieve things”.

“Antonio Conte is a master tactician”.

Guardiola was presented to the media on Friday as he faced his first press conference as the club’s new head coach, with expectations high following his huge success in his past managerial roles with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

“What I saw from the distance is that it is so tough to win games here”. Chelsea and City are best academies in the way they play.

“Kidd knows the club perfectly”, Guardiola said. He’s got 12, 13 years in both Scotland and here.

‘He is a magnificent defender but he has to be fit.

He made it a priority to rejuvenate Raheem Sterling, who endured a hard Euro 2016 with England and who Guardiola felt has struggled with the tag of the most expensive British player ever since City paid £49 million for him a year ago.

“We played many times against each other, and I can only say as a coach that the big coaches – and Jose is of course one of them – help me to reach another level as a coach”.

Guardiola was quick to state he has no interest in managing Spain and envisages continuing his career elsewhere after City.

“I think it will be more physical”. “Fasten your seatbelts”, he said.
