Padres: Christian Friedrich will be called up from Triple-A Tuscon on Friday to replace Cashner.

The Brewers scored first, but it could have been a much bigger inning. The Padres offense looked good versus Chicago and will need to find some way to score at Milwaukee who can score in bunches.

Braun extended his hitting streak to 12 games but came up empty three times with runners in scoring position. After Guerra’s stellar six innings, the “A” relief corps of Michael Blazek, Tyler Thornburg, and Jeremy Jeffress finished off the shut-out with a scoreless inning each. Upton scooted to third when Santana gloved Christian Bethancourt’s sinking liner to right and scored when Alexei Ramirez lofted a sacrifice fly down the left-field line. San Diego outfielder Jon Jay has the most experience against Peralta, going 10-for-30 against him with a walk and four strikeouts. Manager Andy Green did not announce a replacement. “He is back, making a start, I think we are looking at him the 24th in San Francisco”, Green said.

Guerra also picked up his first major league hit with a single up the middle in the third.

Last weekend, Andrew Cashner gave up three earned runs in five innings of work against the New York Mets and took the loss. C Derek Norris might be out of the starting lineup for a couple days after getting hit on the left hand by a pitch on Thursday, though Green said he would be available to pinch-hit.
