Reliance Jio might be extending it’s Free Data services after the Welcome Offer ends on January 1st 2017. We can see long queues at Reliance stores to get reliance Jio sim which is free.
Jio on Thursday revealed its tariff structure officially in the Reliance Industries’ AGM which seems to have accelerated the ongoing price war where rival telcos are now further reducing their data tariffs in order to keep their customers from being poached. After 31 December, users will only have to pay for data, an unheard-of concept.
Owing to the heavy demand which was at par with the supply, sufficient number of SIM cards were unavailable, making customers run from one store to the next, as per a Business Standard report. The company will provide unlimited services till up to December 31, after which users have been promised voice calls – both local and STD – as well as roaming free of cost, for life. When Mukesh Ambani entered into Telecom, he bought 96% stakes of Infotel broadband services which won the best 4G service award in India. In Chennai, faster activations through the Aadhaar-based digital verification process than the manual route prompted customers to rush home and fetch their cards. Initially all SIM cards were available only in Reliance outlets, but, after the launch, they should be available in all other retail shops who sell telecom products and devices. They can either “wait and watch” or they could also follow suit and cut call charges soon to hold on to high-end Average revenue per user (ARPU) generating customers. Experts believe the incumbents will also need to lower data rates, by increasing usage limits.

He also said that Jio would offer data rates at 1/10th of market rates, cheapest in the world. According to reliable estimates, incumbent players get almost 70 per cent of the total revenue from just 30 percent high end consumers.
