Kelechi Iheanacho – a late replacement for Aguero – added a fourth goal for City, which did its best to keep pace with group rival Barcelona, a day after the Spanish side thrashed Celtic 7-0.

Guardiola has made an immediate impact on his new club and has done so with new signings like Gundogan, Leroy Sane and Claudio Bravo having only just become available for the first team.

David Silva will not feature in tomorrow’s clash, Guardiola confirming that whilst the injury the Spaniard faces isn’t serious he feels that Saturday would be too earlier an introduction. We can’t make something good in the Champions League in the upcoming years without them. If we didn’t get points in the first game at home against Gladbach, it would make games against Barcelona and Celtic more hard.

‘I’m thinking about it – I don’t know.

“All we can do is play every time better than the day before and the people say, ‘wow, I’m going to the Etihad Stadium because I spend 90 minutes there and I have fun. Today we are going to see the doctor and we will decide”.

Ilkay Gundogan came in for Silva in midweek and his manager explained that a late decision will be taken on whether the German worldwide can play two games in a week.

“But we’ve been working and improving in the last three years”.

City continue to be without captain Vincent Kompany, who is recovering from groin and thigh surgery and has not played since May. “That’s why our job is so attractive”, added Guardiola.

Under new manager Pep Guardiola City have won all seven of their Premier League and cup games to date in the current campaign, by an overwhelming aggregate score of 21-4. “They’ve been very impressive”.

“Obviously the Champions League is not easy, but our objective is to try to get where we got last season – the semi-final”.

“I didn’t know all of the English people here, or the Italian people before I came but they are so professional about their work – our players are in good hands”. ‘Not really sure how you stop a rampant city team in their own back yard.
