Gunfire Reported at March for Michael Brown Slay Anniversary in Ferguson, Missouri

Earlier in the day, a few hundred people gathered for a memorial service and moment of silence along Canfield Drive at the spot where Brown was fatally shot by officer Darren Wilson after a confrontation on August 9, 2014. Just seconds before the accident, fellow protesters could be heard screaming as they saw the vehicle barreling toward the man.

Witness Sharon Cowan told AP news agency that the driver, a woman, “knocked the shoes off his feet. Hit him, and he rolled and he bounced”.

In a second video, a series of shots can be heard as the crowds stand horrified at the violent outburst.

Other protesters tried to block the auto to stop the driver from getting away, witnesses told the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

“Then when the bullets flew, I started screaming some more”, she said.

No one was hurt in the shooting.

Witnesses told The Associated Press that a vehicle drove through a group of protesters who were blocking a street during the demonstration Tuesday night to mark two years since the unarmed black 18-year-old’s fatal shooting by a white police officer.

Ferguson Police spokesman Jeff Small said it appeared that the vehicle driver had not meant to knock over a protester, and she was being “very co-operative”, the St Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper reported.

A few dozen people marched Tuesday night from the site on Canfield Drive where the unarmed black 18-year-old was fatally shot by a police officer to a busy intersection that’s been the site of protests before. A Muny spokesman told the Post-Dispatch that four protesters were arrested.

His family broke down in tears during the quiet morning vigil, which was followed by an evening church service.

An officer’s order to clear a street prompted a shouting match between protesters and police.

What is known for certain is that around midday on 9 August 2014, police officer Darren Wilson was driving a police auto and encountered Mr Brown and a friend walking down a street.
