The attack ended when police shot the gunman on campus.
After opening fire on students in his writing class, the killer- who shall not be named- exchanged shots with police officers, and then finally took his own life.
Nine people were killed in Thursday’s rampage.
The detectives arrived within minutes of the first reports of gunfire at Umpqua Community College.

McGowan, 18, managed to stay alive by staying as still as possible and avoiding eye contact with the shooter, his mother recounted.
“Rand was like, ‘Oh my goodness, ‘ and said ‘Thank you Lord!”

A statement from the family of Mr Johnson said he was “proud of himself” to have recently enrolled in college and had “finally found his path”. “If it had rang, he would have been picked out”. Pastors offered grief counseling at their sanctuaries, the fairgrounds and at a Roseburg nonprofit.
