Gunman shoots 1 at downtown Denver building; kills self

Police originally said that multiple victims were being transported to an area hospital after a report of shots fired.

The Alliance Center mainly houses environmental nonprofits. Other buildings were locked down, and people were asked to stay away from the area.

Two women were killed and suspect was taken into custody Tuesday evening following a shooting outside a courthouse in eastern Arizona, authorities said.

Police say the scene is secure, but not clear.

“I heard screaming, I saw the door to the second floor open and there was just loud screaming”, Best said. The shooter targeted a woman, who is now in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

The department held a news conference this morning to update details on the Tuesday shooting at the center at 15th and Wynkoop Streets in lower downtown Denver. It is unclear how many victims there are.

The woman shot yesterday at the Denver Alliance Center for Sustainability has died, according to Denver Police. Public transit near the area has been suspended, the police department has reported.

Companies and organizations in the building include Conservation Colorado, the Sierra Club, Healthier Colorado, Common Cause, Trout Unlimited, National Resources Defense Council and Streetsblog Denver.

All shuttles and bus service, including the Mall Shuttle along the 16th Street Mall were suspended in the area.
