Gunmen disguised as police opened fire Friday on boxing fans at a Dublin hotel, killing one man and wounding two others in an attack that could reflect tensions within Ireland’s criminal underworld.
The two others were taken to The Mater and Beaumont hospitals with possible gunshot wounds (not believed to be life-threatening) after the shootings at a weigh-in for a boxing match in the Regency Hotel in Swords, on the northside of the city. The lineup was supposed to feature a WBO European lightweight title fight between Jamie Kavanagh and Antonio Joao Bento.
MGM Promotions “Clash of the Clans” official press conference and weigh-in was due to take place at The Regency Hotel at 1PM this afternoon.
When emergency workers arrived, they found three injured men who were “all in their 20s or 30s”, the statement read.
They posted: “The weigh-in will be taking place at the Regency Airport Hotel today Friday 5th February at 14:00”.
Irish police have sealed off the scene and are investigating further. “We look forward to seeing you there”.
