“As per initial information, seven to 10 terrorists tried to break deep in the base” but troops managed to contain them, military spokesman Major General Asim Bajwa said in a tweet.

A heavy contingent of the Quick Reaction Force has reached the spot and exchanges of fire with the fighters are ongoing. The area has been cordoned off by security forces.

He said the attackers stormed the guard room of the base, but the attack was quickly repulsed. “The attackers first went to the guard room”.

A senior officer of Quick Response Force was injured in the attack.

No major militant groups have claimed the attack so far. Sounds of explosions and gunfire were heard during the intial attack. “We have been hearing firing for the past one hour and nothing is clear what is going on”, a local resident, Mukamal Shah, said.
