Gunmen storm Atlanta home, shoot father as he tries to protect family

He was charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery.

Atlanta police say Michael Lash, his wife Whitney, their 2-year-old son and infant daughter had just returned to their northwest Atlanta home when four men knocked on their front door around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Four teenagers asked to borrow a jack for their auto, then tried to force their way inside. WSB reported that the men fired shots at her but missed.

She escaped through the back door and ran for help.

Investigators say more than a dozen tips came in to Crimestoppers after a sketch of Smith was released.

As the men went into the home, Whitney Lash was sacked at while trying to escape with her baby daughter.

Smith has previously been arrested on a charge of entering an auto in Brookhaven and was wanted on a probation violation.

The incident has many in the neighborhood on edge. The meeting will be held at the Fire Station No. 28 which is located at 817 Hollywood Road NW.

“It is scary when you’re not used to it”, Don Penovi told Channel 2’s Carl Willis. “They get it everywhere”.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said Friday morning that the 18-year-old man was apprehended during the overnight hours.
