Hansen’s character is “a standout amongst the most notable malice figures ever and is a Sharp naturalist”, said specialists Mike Eisenstadt.
Gunnar Hansen signs copies of Chain Saw Confidential: How We Made The World’s Notorious Horror Movie.
Born in Iceland, he moved to Maine with his family at the age of 5, and then to Texas, where studied at the University of Texas. Surviving Hansen is his partner of 13 years, Betty Tower. He worked as an actor and a writer while living in Maine.
Despite the success of “Texas Chain Saw Massacre”, the cast and crew, including Hansen, received but a small portion of the fees they deserved. When The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was released in 1974, it made Gunnar a legend, and he reprised Leatherface in several forms throughout the years.
The 1974 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was directed and co-written by Tobe Hooper. His death, at a young 69-years-old, was not a complete surprise after his battle with pancreatic cancer, yet his passing has left a gaping hole in the horror industry.
After an unsatisfying experience working on the 1977 film THE DEMON LOVER, Hansen took an eleven year hiatus from acting, returning to the screen in 1988’s HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS.

In the film, Hansen’s Leatherface character and his relatives torment five young people who stumble upon their remote Texas home in search of gas for their vehicle. But, what really got me was how terrible it was for Marilyn Burns who played Sally, the survivor.
