Gurdaspur SP reaches NIA office for interrogation

Probing the Pathankot terror attack, the National Investigation Agency on Tuesday visited Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu, where Army and police officials were attacked on March 20 and 21 previous year, as investigators suspect there are glaring similarities between the three attacks. The call details would also help NIA establish whether terrorists got some help from insiders.

The NIA team on Wednesday took police officer Salwinder Singh to the place near Kolian village, 25 km from Pathankot, from where he was allegedly abducted in his auto along with the two others.

Central intelligence agencies were unaware that the phones belonging to former Gurdaspur Superintendent of Police Salwinder Singh and his jeweller friend Rajesh Verma were in the custody of the terrorists till they dialled a Pakistani number already under the surveillance of agencies here using one of these phones.

According to reports, there are contradictions in the SP’s statement, due to which his statement is being verified repeatedly.

The NIA has summoned Gopal to the headquarters for questioning and if need be, the two would be confronted, a home ministry spokesperson said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will question Salwinder Singh in connection with their probe into the Pathankot attack. NIA sources have not ruled out subjecting him to a lie detector test after seeking his and the court’s nod.

Six terrorists and seven security personnel were killed in the attack on the Pathankot air base.

More evidenceIn the meantime, a 10 member NIA team headed by a DIG has found more evidence from the crime scene during its search operation that includes one magazine of AK-47, a mobile phone and a binocular, said union home ministry.
