Gus Malzahn breaks silence on Duke Williams’ dismissal

An employee at Skybar in downtown Auburn told AL.com that Williams punched four people following Auburn’s 35-21 Homecoming win against San Jose State on Saturday. “It’s not easy and it shouldn’t be easy for a coach, but you’ve got to do what’s best for your team”.

“The biggest thing is you’re disappointed when you have to get rid of a player”.

Auburn wide receiver D’haquille Williams was dismissed from the team for allegedly punching four people at a bar.

Malzahn mentioned senior Melvin Ray and juniors Marcus Davis and Tony Stevens among those who could be in line for increased production with Williams gone.

Wallace sensed guys stepping their games up Tuesday night.

“We’ve got a really close team”, Malzahn said. We feel good about our receiving crew.

With Williams’s dismissal, Auburn lacks returning offensive production as pointed out by WUMP Morning Host and SEC analyst Cole Cubelic.

“The coaches preach that to us day-in, and day-out”, Wallace said.

Coaches are already evaluating the wide receivers to see who will replace Williams in the starting lineup. We’ve got a bunch of guys that do it the right way.

“(Harris) wasn’t out there with us today, but I feel like he’ll probably be back before the week’s out”, Malzahn said. “It also opens up a few opportunities for a few young guys”, Malzahn said.

While the first five weeks of the college football season have provided plenty of drama and surprises, the attrition among a few of the game’s most talented individual players has been staggering and has cast a shadow over the action on the field.
