Gutierrez homers in 10th to lift Mariners
If you cross the border this weekend expect long delays it’s because the Blue Jays are in Seattle this weekend for a three-game series with the Mariners.

Two of the three losses the Blue Jays have endured in the second half have been charged to their bullpen. Time’s not on our side. “We’re chasing some pretty good teams”.
Franklin Gutierrez delivered the biggest hit yet of his comeback with the Seattle Mariners. “But, I mean, that’s how you lose”.
It was Gutierrez’s third home run since being selected from Triple-A Tacoma on June 24, and it came just five days after his pinch-hit grand slam in Seattle’s 11-9 win over Detroit. “He threw a fastball right there, put a good swing on it and it went out”.
SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Mariners turned a Toronto base-running blunder into a unique triple play in the fourth inning Sunday with catcher Mark Zunino recording the final two putouts. Not only the fact that they lead for most of the game, not only that Ezequiel Carrera for the second straight game tried to put the team on his shoulders, not only because some of their best relievers were left in the pen as the game winning home run sailed over the fence, not only because they ran themselves out of several potential big innings, but because it dropped them back to.
Because, by rule, the base belongs to the original runner, Zunino tagged out Pillar. “I just wanted to know if I was able to play again”. “We just didn’t execute”.
But Miller instead sees that Carrera has wandered off third base and into “no-man’s land”, as Miller described it, so he does exactly what a defender is taught to do in such a situation, and runs right at Carrera to force him to commit one way or the other.
Zunino said he wasn’t sure why Carrera came off the bag.
Hernandez pitched seven strong innings to pick up his 12th win of the season, Trumbo gave Seattle the lead with a two-run homer and the Mariners beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2. Ryan Goins grounded out to first. However, Carrera then fell off the bag on his return to third and was tagged out to complete the triple play.
Carrera and Josh Donaldson each had a solo homer for the Blue Jays, while Austin Jackson hit a solo shot for the Mariners.
Walker went a full six frames, striking out 6 batters while allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and 3 base on balls.
Trumbo’s opposite-field shot in the fourth off Toronto starter Marco Estrada (7-6) was his third homer since joining Seattle and gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead.
CHICAGO – Phillies ace Cole Hamels enhanced his trade value even more, becoming the first pitcher to throw a no-hitter against the Chicago Cubs in 50 years while leading Philadelphia to a 5-0 win Saturday.
Heaney (5-0) allowed two runs and six hits over six innings in his sixth start for the Angels after making five starts last season with the Miami Marlins and going 0-3 with a 5.83 ERA in seven total appearances. Seager hit into a double play, first baseman Smoak to shortstop Reyes to pitcher Buehrle, Zunino to third, A. Jackson out.

“That’s most likely the toughest issue you can do Cruz said, “walk the leadoff person, particularly because part of the selection. You’ve got to get ahead, and that I didn’t do that”. We’ve got the right guys starting to come up. That said, Buehrle struggled last year after the All-Star break, going 3-4 with a 4.64 ERA. We’ll keep building. He’ll continue to get better at it. It’s going to take time.
