Gutierrez plates six runs to lead M’s

It isn’t always possible to identify a game’s turning point, particularly in the early innings, but the Mariners made that easy to do Saturday in a 6-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox. It could have been more.

Porcello had already dug a two-run hole against the Seattle Mariners when Leonys Martin and Seth Smith opened the third inning with back-to-back singles.

The Mariners had the meat of their order lined up. Young experienced the sensation while running from first to third base in the second inning during Wednesday’s win.

The first summons, when a calf injury sidelined Felix Hernandez, went to Paxton, but the Mariners turned to Sampson when they determined Miley’s sore shoulder required time on the disabled list.

“The first inning and the third inning – back up against the wall and tested”, Porcello said.

“It’s one of the better hitting teams in the league, so I tip my hat to Kuma”, Seattle manager Scott Servais said.

Is Rick Porcello the top guy you want on the mound for that? He made some pitches.

Boston finally got to Sampson in the fourth inning with two outs.

“I’m kind of in a little funk right now”.

They settled for one run. Betts, only 23, leads the league with 60 runs scored, has 14 home runs from the leadoff spot and is 11-for-11 in stealing bases.

“It’s wonderful, man”, Ortiz said. In his most recent start Tuesday against the Rays, Walker left early due to foot discomfort, but appears to be just fine. You know we’re known was looking for strike or no grumbled we get done.

2B Robinson Cano added a solo homer in the eighth, his 19th, and No. 100 for the Mariners this season, second in the AL. The no-hitter was still intact in the ninth inning, but Oakland’s Max Muncy broke it up with a fly ball that glanced off the glove of Texas right fielder Nomar Mazara. He gave up three runs in just 1.2 innings in that game and he walked two batters while striking out one.

Jackie Bradley Jr. jumped on a fastball and drove it over the Green Monster in left-center to make it 2-1.

Ortiz’s homer wasn’t enough to stop the Red Sox from losing their second straight and fourth in five games. Not only that, but here come the Blue Jays, only a scant two games back.

The Orioles and Red Sox are tied for first place with 37-27 records. After that, they will return home to face the San Diego Padres for three games and then welcome the Tampa Bay Rays for four game with a doubleheader set for Saturday. “That’s a pretty big deal”, Servais said. “He probably wasn’t as sharp as he normally is”. There are going to be a lot of butterflies.

“I’m a bad ass”, he jokingly said. “I thought he was aggressive with his fastball”. He, too, expects to be more relaxed ” Just the routine of being here for five days (will help)”, he said.

After going hitless in three at-bats in his first start against Wright, Mark Trumbo was 2-for-4.

To be honest with you, friends, the Mariners do not have a good chance to win today. “He never saw it”. The Red Sox called up INF Deven Marrero and OF Ryan LaMarre.

Franklin Gutierrez is developing an affinity for Fenway Park. Porcello has a no-decision in each of his last four starts. And then when he throws the heater, it has some (upward) carry.
