Guus Hiddink “absolutely perfect” for Chelsea – former assistant Ray Wilkins

Guus Hiddink appears nearer to replacing Jose Mourinho as Chelsea manager after Football Federation Australia (FFA) announced the Dutchman had been hired in a hastily deleted tweet. The Blues are now 16th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.

Guus Hiddink, who successfully managed Chelsea on an interim basis in 2009, has been pictured at Heathrow airport after flying into London for negotiations with Blues owner Roman Abramovich.

“When you take over a club like Chelsea you’ve got to win”, he said.

The 69-year-old arrived at Heathrow this morning and told the Daily Mirror: “I want as much information as possible”.

“Both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways”.

If you foresee change once again proving beneficial to Chelsea, you can find odds of [3.65] on them clawing back an 11-point deficit to salvage a top-six finish.

There will be no further comment until a new appointment is made.

Following Jose Mourinho’s sacking, it hasn’t taken long for attention to switch to the identity of his successor.

The Evening Standard are reporting Mourinho’s exit clears the way for Jamie Vardy to join Chelsea.

Hull boss Steve Bruce was saddened by Mourinho’s departure and reckons the former Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid coach should have been given more time.

“What chance have we got, if people like Mourinho are getting sacked?” he said.

Since, Chelsea have suffered disappointing defeats to the likes of Stoke, West Ham and Liverpool and have only won four games in the Premier League this season.

Amid talk of dressing room unrest sealing Mourinho’s fate, club captain John Terry used his Instagram account to pay tribute to the “very best I have ever worked with”.
