Guus Hiddink replaces Mourinho as Chelsea boss

He is immensely proud of his eight trophies at Chelsea, and thanks the fans for all their support throughout his two spells at the club.

In the statement, CAA said that Mourinho had no regrets over his decision to return to Chelsea, where he won the Premier League twice previously in 2004-05 and 2005-06, and that he is ready to seek work again at the earliest opportunity.

Hiddink will NOT take charge of the side on Saturday afternoon, however, with the club confirming that Steve Holland will be in the hotseat for the game against Sunderland.

The Portuguese was sacked on Thursday after overseeing the champions ninth Premier League defeat of the season at Leicester City on Monday night.

Guus Hiddink is expected to be named as Mourinho’s replacement at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season.

Each goal that ended a three-game winless run in the league and lifted Chelsea four points above the relegation zone only seemed to make the atmosphere more toxic as Mourinho’s name – not the scorer’s – was sung.

Chelsea have reappointed Guus Hiddink as interim manager hoping the veteran Dutch coach can rediscover the golden touch that brought the Londoners the FA Cup in his first stint at Stamford Bridge.

The 35-year-old central defender added: “We leave all the decisions to Mr. Abramovich and the board and know our job, as players, is to focus on getting results on the pitch”.

The Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge for the Premier League clash with Sunderland voiced criticism of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich arrived at the club’s Cobham base on Friday, observing training but also overseeing negotiations with former Holland manager Hiddink.

Hiddink and Abramovich were joined in the stand by former Blues favourite Didier Drogba, although the club played down reports of an imminent return to the club for the striker in a coaching capacity.

Much like Chelsea, Hiddink has a reputation to restore after being in charge of failed tournament qualification campaigns with Russia, Turkey, and the Netherlands in the last six years.

Having taken them to fourth place in the 1998 World Cup and become a hero in South Korea and Australia over the course of the next two World Cups, Hiddink could not resist a second go with his home country.

The messy departure of Dr Eva Carneiro, who is involved in a legal dispute with the club after being branded “naive” by Mourinho in August, has been another negative stain on Chelsea’s season.
