Gwen Stefani and Nickelodeon to release Harajuku-themed series
In a 2005 post on her website, comedian Margaret Cho called Stefani’s performances a “minstrel show”. Sadly, the Bratz brand has been in decline for several years, but a new Nickelodeon cartoon just might revive the public’s interest in the whole “big head and tall, skinny body” aesthetic.

The Nickelodeon series will likely be quite a labor of love for Gwen Stefani. The 26 episodes of the program will focus on the members of the band, HJ5 namely Love, Angel, Music, Baby and the leader of the group G.
The band will face plenty of challenges along the way.
Said Stefani: “Partnering with Nickelodeon on Kuu Kuu Harajuku is a dream come true!” Stefani proudly said to People Magazine.

Nickelodeon has announced that a new animated series from pop star and fashionista Gwen Stefani, Kuu Kuu Harajuku, will premiere exclusively on Nick in the USA on Monday, October 3 at 4 p.m. ET/PT, with new episodes each day at four through to Friday, Oct. 7 and fresh premieres from the 26-episode series airing Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. thereafter. Angel. Music. Baby, in 2004. It was while writing her first solo album that Stefani created the original Harajuku Girl characters as a celebration of the creativity and individualism she saw and loved in the Harajuku District.
“I love that this is an animated series for young girls that celebrates creativity, imagination and individuality”, says Stefani, who has three children of her own: sons Kingston, 10, Zuma, 8, and Apollo, 2½. “You can look at it from a negative point of view if you want to, but get off my cloud”.

“Kuu Kuu Harajuku” will premiere at 4 p.m. on Oct 3 and air at 4 p.m. through October 7 and continue with premieres in its regular 8:30 a.m. Saturday time slot.
