Gwen Stefani Awkwardly Asked About Gavin Rossdale Divorce

The ballad comes just a few months after Stefani and her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale, ended their marriage of 13 years, and the internet has collectively decided that “Used To Love You” is, indeed, about their breakup.

Listen to Gwen’s new song below, do you think “Used to Love You” written with Gavin specifically in mind, or is that too much of a Taylor Swift move for the No Doubt singer?

Gwen Stefani was caught off guard with a question about her recent divorce from Gavin Rossdale during an interview on NBC’s “Today“.

“Your personal life has been in the headlines”, Lauer began. She also spoke on her divorce and said, “There was a lot of prayer and meditating in the sense of trying to be open and grateful with this record”.

Fans have speculated the tune is about her broken romance with the Bush rocker, and Gwen admitted her emotions are all “very real” during an appearance with her The Voice co-stars on USA breakfast show Today on Tuesday. Stefani answered. “What I’ll say about that is that I’ve never put a record out where I’m actually going through things in real time”, she said, noting that with albums like Tragic Kingdom, the production process usually takes place over a couple of years. It was like all very real. “Last week, she showed me the music video for the song and I was blown away”.

Gwen and Gavin filed for divorce in August citing “irreconcilable differences”. “I don’t know these people, but I feel there energy and their love coming back at me”.

A judge is expected to sign the final divorce papers by the end of the year.

The couple will share in the custody of their three sons with a 50/50 split in physical custody, but because of Gwen’s touring schedule, the children will spend most of their time with Gavin.
