GWS star investigated over drug allegation
GREATER Western Sydney star Lachie Whitfield is reportedly being investigated for allegedly avoiding drug testers.

The investigation comes following the discovery of text messages between the GWS midfielder and his former girlfriend, which are of a potentially incriminating nature.
Whitfield stayed at Lambert’s home in May previous year rather than at his own home, allegedly out of fear he may fail an illicit drug test. Whitfield has said he was suffering from a migraine and it was common for players to stay at Lambert’s house rather than stay alone.
Lambert and former football manager Graeme Allan are both being investigated for their role in the cover up and could also face up to four-year bans.
Whitfield allegedly stayed at the home of Craig Lambert, then employed by GWS, to avoid the possibility that he might be given an illicit drugs test in his own home – a common occurrence for AFL players.
The Giants were alerted to the situation a year ago and made the AFL aware of it.
The club is awaiting advice from the AFL to finalise the matter.
ASADA drug testers did not seek to test Whitfield or any other player in the relevant period.
Allan was recently appointed as the football director of Collingwood and Lambert returned to the Brisbane Lions as the welfare manager.
No one from the Giants or the AFL was available for comment.

An AFL spokesperson said on Tuesday they didn’t know when the result of their investigation would be released. Lambert and Allan would also receive bans, should that come to pass.
