Manuel shared to the press that she hadn’t expected at all to win a gold medal.

With team support like this, it’s no wonder Biles and Raisman led Team USA to all-around individual gold and silver medals. On Sunday, Biles added to her personal gold medal count, and the overall United States’ medal count, with a win in the vault finals.

Newly-crowned all-around gymnastics champ Simone Biles was back at it again on Sunday, competing in the vault finals in Rio. She would finish fourth on the event, right behind Giulia Steingruber of Switzerland, who picked up her country’s first Olympic gymnastics medal, a bronze.

During the event, America virtually crushed all competition as the talented team performed up to and in some instances, exceeded expectations in every category.

Yet after Simone Biles’ first attempt in the vault final here Sunday, the American was displeased and unsatisfied with her performance. Her score of 16.033 for her “Cheng” was the best of the night.

“Oh, yes, I did”, Biles said, finally beginning to grasp what she’s accomplished at the Rio Games. When asked about her victory, Biles’ individuality also shined through – she knows who she is.

“If you jump like Simone with your legs straight and together, and if your landings are flawless, then you can compete on her level”, Paseka said. Hong of North Korea attempted a triple twisting Yurchenko, which is a half twist more than the Amanar that Biles was performing. She had two very clean vaults en route to her spot on the podium. (However, because it is so hard, few gymnasts can perform it without a fall, which incurs a deduction of 1.0.) The difficulty value of the Produnova can make it worth the risk, but for Karmakar and Chusovitina today, the risk did not pay off; they finished in fourth and sixth place, respectively. She landed feet first but did count a full point deduction for the fall. She will get a chance to grab even more gold when she competes in the uneven bars and floor exercise finals later this week. She is the reigning world champion on both events.
