Gymnastics – No obstacle insurmountable for Karmakar coach

Dipa, the first Indian woman gymnast to win a CWG medal, now stands 27th in the all-round standings with a combined score of 51.665.
It was a nervous wait for the Indian after that.
In a total of five subdivisions, the gymnasts tried to qualify by finishing in top eight. Karmakar scored 15.100 on the first vault through her Prodonova and later on her second the Tsukahara, with scored 14.860, with 6.000 for difficulty and scored 8.860 in execution.
The Agartala girl, under the tutelage of coach Biweshwar Nandi, is leaving no stone unturned to convince the country and the world that the sport could make room for itself back home. When people first heard about Dipa’s feat of perfectly executing the Produnova – a front handspring and two front sommersaults – and the most hard vault in women’s gymnastics, they saw light at the end of the tunnel. Though the start to the second series was better, she but finished at 26th position with a score of 95.
She landed low on her Produnova vault in the first attempt, while her second vault was a Tsuk double full twist with step to the side.
USA’s Biles Simone, the three-time world champion, topped the qualifying round with a score of 16.050.
Dipa secured 7.000 on difficulty and 8.1 on execution in her first attempt.
Karmakar, the 22-year old from Agartala, Tripura will be taking part in four individual events as part of the all-round competition – Vault, Balance Beam, Uneven Bars and Floor. Her score of 14.850 was good enough for eight in the qualifiers of the Vault event.
