H1Z1 Splits Into Two Games, Both Coming to Xbox One

Anyone who already owns H1Z1 will be granted both versions and will see it listed in your Steam games inventory on February 17, which will act as the official day of the split.

H1Z1, Daybreak’s open-world online zombie survival game that is still in development, is splitting up into two discrete games. And, when I asked if H1Z1: Just Survive would still become a free title when it left Early Access, as was the original goal, I was told they no longer have plans for it to become free-to-play. You can now purchase both titles on Steam for a sale price of $15, which ends February 16th.

Released previous year on Steam Early Access, H1Z1 saw more than 2.5 million downloads and was the #4 top-selling game on Steam of 2015 releases.

Probably the most exciting news from this announcement is that H1Z1: King of the Kill will also be launching on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this summer. H1Z1: Just Survive is also planned to come to console, though Daybreak says those details will come at a later date.

Developer Daybreak Game Company has announced that H1Z1 is being spun-off into two different games focusing on different experiences.

Big changes are on the way to Early Access zombie sandbox H1Z1. The game is being split into two separate releases with one focused on the pure survival game and the other turning the popular Battle Royale mode into a stand-alone experience.

Daybreak creative director Jens Andersen said, also in a canned statement, King of the Kill will now get a bunch of new modes over the next few months. “The next game mode we introduce will make vehicles an important part of the exhibition, adding another layer of energy and turbulence to the mix as players have to move rapidly to different areas of the map in order to stay alive”. We are working on creating a world that’s immersive, that captures the mindset of the last remaining humans trying to survive a post-apocalyptic zombie-filled wasteland – what does it feel like to be forced to scavenge for resources, to have to construct shelters to live, to aid or hinder the last remnants of human civilization? “We want to make sure we give both titles the support they need and deserve to truly flourish”. Meanwhile, Airdrop tickets will only be usable in Just Survive while Event tickets will be limited to King of the Kill.
