Hafiz Saeed seeks ban on ‘Phantom’ in Pakistan

Saif Ali Khan also said the film is based on facts and everybody knows who is responsible for 26/11 terror attacks. Makki is widely believed to handle Saeed’s finances and carries a $2 million bounty on his head.

Emphasising on Indo-Pak relations, Saif pointed out, “My family stays in Pakistan, the ones who chose to stay there after the partition.

Kabir, whose 2012 film “Ek Tha Tiger“, also on terrorism, was banned in Pakistan, but whose “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” has been lauded across the border, said: “Whenever there is a political backdrop in a film, there are chances that the film won’t be screened there”. The movie has some scenes which had given me an idea about this ban.

Saeed’s counsel AK Dogar said that there was a direct threat to the petitioner and his associates’ lives owing to the content of the trailer and added that the petitioner’s grievance is that the film has been advertised to be exhibited in Pakistan.

So far the Pakistan Censor Board has not cleared the film for screening in the country.

Speaking about his association with the movie, Saif Ali Khan said, “The concept of the movie excited me”. Why should we just make films on fictitious events?

Though, his organization Jama’at-ud-Da’wah, which operates mainly from Pakistan and has had sanctions placed against it as a terrorist organization by the United Nations. There are various issues going against Hafiz Saeed.

The movie is to be released on August 28.

Since the government allowed exhibition of Indian films in Pakistan, the Censor Board has been careful about not allowing screening of Indian films which show Pakistan in a bad light or focus on terrorism and ISI.
