The Federal Aviation Administration says a Delta Airlines flight that originated from Boston made and emergency landing in Denver because hail damaged the plane.

The passengers and the photos of cracked windshields and a damaged nose cone tell the same story: Friday evening’s Delta Flight 1889 was intense.

Passenger Beau Sorenson said he didn’t realize how significant the damage was until the plane was safely on the ground.

The passenger said that they way out west was mostly clear, except when the flight became rocky as it approached mountainous Colorado, according to the Weather Channel. “We heard loud banging sounds and saw lightning arcing on the right wing”.

Sorensen said the pilot then reported the windshield was cracked and that they needed to land in Denver as a precaution.

“I fly constantly and this was the scariest 10 minutes of my life”, said passenger Robin Jones after arriving at the Salt Lake global Airport early Saturday morning. Details on whether that equipment was damaged weren’t immediately available.
